books for the girls

the waiting is finally over, for Alya Bebe. Mr Poslaju handed over a parcel to her, today.  she was anxiously waiting for the books i bought online for her & the sisters (and also pour moi ;-) )

hexagonal dream

I'm pretty happy & aspired seeing this unfinished hexey quilt top spread on the single bed in the guestroom. few hundreds more of hexies are needed for this project. hoping to finish this quilt top by end of this year.

what's in the basket today?

it seems that hexey gets into the mind of crafters again. many of my crafting friends are into hexey patch again. me, just picking up the needle and resuming the long abandoned 'love and hate' relationship with my hexey patch :-))

Stitching the hoodiie part is  boring. Visualizing Amani is wearing the finished jacket is inspiring.

Blackie, cat bed & fav spot

made a cat bed for Lil Miss Blackie out of scrap fabrics. I used the upholstery/curtain fabric scraps given by a friend for the exterior and as for the filler, i used scraps from previous sewing projects.

Lil Miss Blackie loves pampering and her favourite spot for sleeping is near the sliding door.

"Sweet dream,  Blackie"

Blackie suka dibelai & dimanja.

mencuba tuah pada 2014 / trying my luck in 2014

Happy New Year 2014 to all. Today, January 1st, 2014, is a bright sunny day, just perfect for me to tender my little garden. Trying my luck, i planted some aster seeds, colour mixture of cream, pink & purple. May one of the colour will survive and grow. Or maybe I will be so lucky, the three colours i.e. all seeds will germinate and grow and bloom, adding colours to my little garden. Yes, a new year is a great start a new project. Try your luck ;-)

Cuti Sekolah Sudah Bermula.....

Sekali gagal, bukan bermakna gagal selamanya, berusahalah capai kejayaan."

Nine Patch Block - the simpler & faster way to do

I would like to dedicate these snapshots to all quilting newbies. Nine Patch is the most basic patchwork block, perfect for newbies. In these snapshots, you will learn to do Nine Patch the simpler & faster way. Enjoy !

(1) cut 3 strips each from 2 printed fabrics & sew them together alternately (sample measurement : 2.5" strip, min length is 15", depends on how many block u want)
(2) cut to 2.5" rectangle patches
(3) arrange the patches to make nine patch pattern
(4) join them block by block
(5) join the top two blocks, then join the bottom two. later join all of them together
(6) voila ! you now have a piece of mini nine patch-work top (sample measurement : roughly 12 1/2" square). You can later sandwich this piece together with batting/wadding and backing fabric, quilt them together and make it into things like potholder, table topper, mitten etc

knit so, neat not so

last Sunday, after so many years i finally got a chance to learn knitting - the basic & how to. It was a short but fun 3-hours class conducted by a fellow crafter. since I didn't have knitting needles & yarns at home,  to ensure that what i just learned stays in my head, i grabbed a pair of chopsticks & crochet yarns to practice the cast-on, knit, purl & cast-off. Well, it didn't turn up very well but at least it helped me memorizing the step-by-step. And the very next day, i couldn't stop myself from purchasing a pair of straight knitting needles, circular needles & yarns from a thrift shop, Daiso. I did one patch of knitting and very proud of it ;-)      ~Zalita, the novice knitter~

Ahad lepas, setelah sekian lama akhirnya ku berpeluang belajar 'mengait dua jarum' - asas & cara-caranya. Kelas selama 3 jam terasa sekejap sahaja & sungguh seronok.

Selepas beberapa lama...2012 / After a long hiatus...all set & ready for 2012

salam semua, apa khabar?

Saya masih jumpa doktor sehingga awal Oktober.

Hi, how are you? Thank you for still following and thank you to new followers as well. It had been a long silence in here, there is a long storyto tell but i'll make it shorter ;-)
sementara di BangsarAfter we moved back to Semenanjung in May last year, we temporarily resided in Bangsar before moving to Kajang. Like another moving house episode (we live semi-nomadically for the past 10 years i.e. in average we move in every 2 years) i had been very busy unpacking & re-arranging things plus managing the kids new school & kindie. amidst the hectic schedule, we found that we were pregnant. it was a very pleasant surprise, indeed. However, i experienced a very bad morning sickness. i was so sick and unable to do lots of thing. Then, it was about week 11-12 of pregnancy just couple of days before Ramadhan, i misccariaged. And there was a complication during the D & C - i lost about 5pints of blood and bed ridden for days.  i was discharged after 9 days in the hospital, and the doctor asked me to get rest for at least 2 months. follow up appointments were made until early October.
Actually, after we moved to Kajang, i've never really get the chance to sit down and enjoying sewing & crafting until end of October. It was not as productive as before, though.

In December, i got an invitation via a friend to teach Patchwork & Quilting at Kolej Komuniti Klang.students at Kolej Komuniti Klang ;-)

Early 2012, i was busy more on kids school thingy. By February, i'm back on my track, sewing & crafting as usual hoping that this momentum will last and maybe accelerated until the end of the year.
Unlike 2011, last year I was more on sewing clothes; accessories. this year 2012, i do lots of baby & maternity things e.g. baby quilts, bedding, swaddle, nursing covers etc. after considering demand especially from my students & friends, I also started selling patchwork  & quilting tools / supplies

Projek Kamu-Hasilkan-Sendiri semasa cuti sekolah / Do-It-Yourself (DIY) during school holiday

Last Sunday, we went to the new kiddies shop in town purchasing some DIY kits for the kids to do during the school holiday. The kids really enjoyed this kind of activity. And i simply like the DIY kits. all you need for the project are in the box. Perfect for you to bring if you are planning to go for holiday with kids. These DIY kits could help developing the kids' creativity & imagination on top of introducing a new learning skill to them.

this week i was busy with some long-overdue projects. aida asked me to do the finishing touch for the growth chart that she and few other stitching friends stitched for aida's daughter, Ainul. the fabrics are personally chosen by aida and i like them so much - the prints & the colour way. I was actually sitting on the this project for so long due to some unforeseen circumstances.

the growth chart is lined with voile at the back

I'm really glad though. this is b'coz after the hiccups, i re-designed and it turned out better than i originally planned. the back is lined voile but aida can still continue stitching the updates on the growth chart by flipping the voile lining.

i also managed the sew the curtain for the 3 little princesses in the house. i really love the print - polka dots & balls. m thinking of lollipops every time i look at it. mmmm.

and yesterday, i did the re-upholstery work for our dining chairs. thanks to my hubby for being my extra hand.
